The University of Southampton, Research Assistant

Involved: Research assistant for Dr. Denis Drieghe. Consisting of research, creating stimuli, making eye tracking experiments in Experiment Builder and running the experiments.


September 2008 – Present (on an ad hoc basis)

The University of Southampton, Data Coding and Entry

Involved: Data coding and entry of different psychological experiments for analysis. The latest involving the coding of eye tracking data from a head mounted eye tracker.


September 2008 – April 2010

The University of Southampton, Hartley Library, Reception Support

Involved: Customer service. Meeting the needs of new students, current students, staff and members of the general public. The position also involves a great deal of organisation and general knowledge to help with the great quantity and variety of enquiries at the front desk. The position involved working evenings with a member of security to ensure the saftey of staff, students and visitors.


August 2008 – September 2008

Southampton City Council, Electoral Registration Office

Involved: Sorting of the electoral role replies. Opening envelopes, sorting replies, scanning, filing and amending data on the computers. Used letter opening machines, photocopier, scanners and using Council software.


July 2008 – September 2008

Waitrose, Customer Assistant, Southampton

Involved: Customer service, manual labour, such as filling shelves and limited technical work, such as using stock management handheld terminals.


September 2007 – June 2008

Marks and Spencer, Customer Assistant, Westbourne

Involved: Extensive customer service, technical (computer and stock system use) and manual labour, such as filling shelves, managing stock, till work, stock management. I was also involved in the training of new members of staff and some minor staff management duties.


July 2007

Involved: Commuting to Peterborough to train and instruct new website maintenance staff. Passing on my knowledge from my previous employment at iSolve to the resident website developer taking over my position.


April 2007 – July 2007

iSolve, Internet Solutions, Web Developer, Bournemouth

Involved: Co-ordinated information and work flow between a web development company and a commercial website client. I maintained contact between clients via phone and e-mail, updated and maintained websites, was involved in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). I had to co-ordinate information from many sources, online and from members of staff. I also had to ensure all clients were happy and any changes were made instantaneously. Good organisational skills, effective planning and the ability to react to changing demands. Required the ability to make long term business relationships with clients and anticipate their needs and provide them with solutions to their business needs. Involved extensive work with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook), Actinic software and Adobe Photoshop.


October 2006 – July 2007

Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Leader, Bournemouth University, Computing Course

Involved: Planning, motivating, encouraging, time management and being able to react quickly to questions and help when needed and appropriate. I had to create a lesson plan and follow it through for each lesson; the topics each week were decided by the students within these classes.
