Oooooh, coming close to my first weekend where I would be working. I’m quite happy how it’s all turned out. Currently have 5 weeks left till summer holidays and the last assignment and revision for exams has begun. Just the terrible task of picking modules and project for next year, I change my options every few hours, not good. Seems to be a lot of heath and social…which I normally try to avoid. Summertime soon and helping out with psychology dilettante style. I’m quite excited to get paid to geek it up all summer! ^.^
Currently experiencing a time warp with my music. I’ve found the MTV Classic channel has a “Alternative Classic Mixtape” few hours . I feel sad that music I like is marked classic :/ I’m not that old! Although I am happy that it’s a music channel I can watch for more than one song without wanting to flick! Also, it’s really handed to be reminded of bands that I forgot about…my poor, old person memory obviously. Now I’m related artist surfing in Spotify, Garbage, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Pixies <3 I really must find an indie club that plays this stuff still!
Hayward bought me Sam and Max – The Penal Zone, twas quite awesome! I love point and click games! The massive amount of dialogue jokes is also really funny, especially remarks about cleaning themselves with their tongues…like cats and flight attendants! I thought it was hilarious! It took me a good two sittings to complete it and I really enjoyed it. The graphics are much better than the usual point and click games like Mystery of Time and Space (MOTAS) which was my favourite for re-playing. I can’t wait for more of the Sam and Max series of games. If I was to review it briefly I’d have to say if you like point and click you will love this! If you don’t like the whole “clicking everything in existence to see what it does” stuff you might not like it, but it has a hint level option where you can look into the future with Max’s new psychic powers to make it not seem so pointy-pointy, but you can decide if you want it high hint level or low. Also, unlike a lot of point and click games you don’t ever need to click on something the size of a pixel (minor exaggeration) to activate anything. Finally, if you love the Sam and Max humour, you will love this, I don’t normally giggle away to myself while playing a game.
I’m currently involved in the bi yearly new phone hunt…I hate it, I pick one, decide it’s a rip, than dally around. The best thing to do would be to get the htc desire, but parting with my money causes pain. Speaking of my money spending…I should really be behaved with the whole being out of work for a month, alas the temptation was too great : My Other Rise is a Light Cycle It was just too awesome to resist!
For the old school!
Last night of work in the library! Scary! It’s such a nice sunny day too, not a bad day. Really doesn’t feel like I’ve quit just yet, still regretting it. I’ll miss my crumby pay days. When I see how busy the library is in exam time I’ll be glad I’m not here anymore. Alas, for now I will just worry about how I threw a nice easy job/money away! It would have had a serious inpact on my grades this semester though, no reading week, catch up from all the lectures I’ve missed due to working the night before lectures all year, those final assignments and the four weeks of new stuff before the exams. I wouldn’t of stood a chance. Dammit, I want my reading week back!
Still being throttled by this personality assignment, I’ve not had chance to write it up at work, it’s been surprisingly busy in the library concidering it is still the easter break. I have all my research at least and a draft sorted out, it’s just the arduous task of writing it…preferably in some sort of formal English, not my draft English concisting of “this dude thinks this other dude is an idiot and says so.” Fun timez.
The security guard is helping brush up my french, so far I’ve remember how to ask for the train station and “sun good”! Oh, and a vague memory of how to ask if I can take my blazer off (from school, not for any weird purposes). I could survive in France with that, especially if I wanted to be at a train station, while the sun was hot and while I am in need of removing a blazer!
In a cute tone – I didn’t want to leave the house today. A certain little kitteh was being too cute and I felt so bad to leave him alone! Though I wasn’t too pleased after he rubbed around my legs while I was wearing black tights…now with added white cat hair! ^.^
Busy week doing very little. Went to Bournemouth to see Dara O Briain, he was funny as always, it was a good night. I miss Bournemouth, it has clean air and a horizon…Southampton has neither. Southampton…home of grey.
I finally spent time on making a header for this place. I love making headers, it’s important it doesn’t cheap and nasty, but equally important it fits in with the general style. I normally make static web pages that start as a fancy header and expand to be a theme, but as I do not have the time to make a whole WordPress theme, I had to make a header that fitted in with the grey blahness of this. I found this difficult and made many fancy things before making the grey one I’ve stuck up. The grey one fits, the others didn’t, but they looked far cooler. I really wanted to make a blue/grey transperant site, but I’m not letting myself until I’ve finished my assignment or it will never be finished. Look at the sexeh blue though! Making use of fibers and motion blur.
I finally settled on a topic for my pop psych essay: The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. It’s reasonably interesting, but I still say it’s annoying to write an essay which just involves slating something that nobody cares about. I like the MBTI though, I come off as a total twat when I complete the inventory… I’d agree with that.
So very relaxed and feeling good. My sleeping patterns are back where I feel most alive, I still have nothing to do, bar whatever I want. It’s certainly been awhile. Plus still six days till work and then they are my last four shifts!
Happy happy joy?
Random nonsense:
New Doctor Who…I approve. I have avoided watching it for awhile due to my hatred of annoying wenches and people who apologise too much. I have to say I actually liked the new episode and I hope Moffat keeps it interesting. I approve of Mr Smith and his tweed-ness and his new wench isn’t annoying, always a positive point! Can’t wait for the angels (from Blink) episode.
Tonight, new Jonathan Creek! I have been re-watching them all lately so I’m quite excited for the new one. In a sad geeky way ofc. Seeing as I’m watching all the Star Trek films at the moment as well, it’s pretty obvious I’m geeking it up. I also bought a season of Ducktales! It’s fantastic, I wish I had more old cartoons.
I’ve been faffing with the new joys of CS4, it’s pretty damn clever when comparing it to the 7 I learnt on. Glowing orbs that would of taken 5+ layers to look 3D can be sorted in 2+ layers due to the new 3D tab (see below). I’m still playing with it, but it can do so much, I’ve barely made anything as I just want to faff with all the options more!
A shiny orb thing. Only four layers, background, the orb, highlight and shadow. The orb is made using the new 3D stuff. It basically throws you a 3D geometric shape and you have all the light sources and stuff already there, it’s just a case of fiddling with all the options.
It’s going to be horrible when I have to finish that horrible essay and start revision for exams, I like my life of being a bum.
In nicer news, finally recorded a kitty chirp!
First night of my notice! Everything bad about the job now makes me happy, especially now I know the end is nigh.
Currently researching pop psychology essay, but it is annoying to research something your just going to slate for 1500 words. Considering personality typing as a topic, but there isn’t much recent stuff, except in management journals. Management love personality typing, especially in supermarkets! I remember first going to apply for a job at M&S, you couldn’t apply in store, you had to complete an online personality test (talent screening) first before you could have an interview.
The test had questions about how you would act in different scenarios, and the choice of answers were all acceptable things to do and extremly similar (e.g. you finish a task, do you – a)help busy collegue, b)ask supervisor what to do, c)recheck work). Anyway, I filled the questionnaire out and got rejected because I favoured the answers about organisation and efficiency over customer service, which seeing as I was applying for a job early mornings before the shop opened, I figured I was fine. Alas, I had failed. There was so many things about the questionnaire that just seemed weird, there seemed no way of of assessing it, or even telling which answer was correct!
A quick google later I have the answers and an interview and was employed within three days. I would love to meet who came up with the idea of having a very poor personality test as a screening process for interviews. Even a good personality test surely could not say who is better suited to stacking fruit and veg. Maybe if I’m stuck for work again I can use my psychology skills to examine the customer base in supermarkets, it’s always surprising to see the same elderly people come in every morning to buy a lime, a handful of grapes and a can of gin and tonic.
Anyway, back to researching this fun topic…
Apparently I am very irritating when I’m not working. My first day off I tidied the house, I’m not just talking a quick hoover and dust, I mean insane, crazy-spring-cleaning-lady. All clothes washed, everything has been tidied, now what am I to do on my second day off? I should have made it last a couple of days! I only have one objective left: getting good at playing house of the dead. I’m going to be amazing at pwnin zombies/mutants by the end of Easter! Still, Good Tutorials keep me happy! New rather garish wallpaper?
All “To do” assignments are done! Till next month anyway. Now the Easter holidays have started, yet I have no idea what to do with myself. Hmm…I got nothing. I’ll start small… shower and off out in search of dinner, that’s good right? It’s interesting, a fun holiday pastime? I’ll work on it.
I handed in my notice. Quite an anti-climax really, I assume I will get the rush of joy when I’ve actually left. Or a rush of dread that I gave up a paying job…ah well
Back to the “joy of the brain” essay and then to dissect some ANOVAs.
