Eyeko Cosmic and Mac Bad Fairy

Hello! I’m back and blogging! Hopefully more regularly now the exams are over and I’m working again. I’m just temping for now, but it’s better to be doing something rather than sitting at home fretting about finding work! I have taken many a picture of my nails and other make up things I’ve used lately, but I’ve only just got around to taking them all off my phone and cropping them. I have enough pictures for about a month’s worth of posts! I have really been slacking on the blogging front *slaps wrist*. I’m all set now, back on the horse, upping the ante, not putting off until tomorrow what I can do today, out of the woods, into the clear, it’s a piece of cake, easy as pie, I’m fresh as a daisy. Ok I’ll stop…I love cliché phrases! I have a thing about them. I love how many they are and that people say them without realising and that you can have a conversation using only clichés and still convey meaning. I’ll stop beating around the bush… :P

I have a couple of pictures with my stubby nails, but they are horrible, so I put this mani up first because it’s much nicer and I have nails again! :D My favourite black polish is Eyeko Cosmic. It’s not a true black, it has lots of subtle  multi-coloured micro glitter in it. Inside it looks plain black, but put a light on it and it looks lovely! I tried to capture the glitter in the pictures, the last overexposed flash picture kinda shows the amount of glitter. It’s a great polish, two coats to be opaque, fast drying and the glitter is fine enough so that it’s not bumpy. Also, it’s really easy to remove, no tin foil fingers with this polish!

I also added Mac Bad Fairy as an accent finger colour because it’s one of my favourite polishes and I thought it would look nice against the black. It’s a very thick polish and I find it needs 3 coats to look its best so it feels pretty thick on my nail, but it’s pretty so I don’t mind! Also, look how shiny and non-bubbly my nails are! Really love this Lumos top coat, you can even make out the reflection of my window in the first picture!

Sorry about the overexposure. I never use my camera flash for this reason, it makes everything look this way! It’s not so bad though as it does show the level of glitter in the polish and my middle finger looks quite cosmic and night-sky-esque.

I’m liking accent nails at the moment so expect to see a few more! :) What do you think of accent nails or multi-coloured nails? Do you like them, or do you prefer one colour? xxxx

I have had my first two exams, just one left next Tuesday and my time at university has come to an end! My first exam was awful. The questions were awful and I didn’t know how to answer any of them, even though I spent more time revising that topic than anything else! *grumble* The exam the following day was much better though. I had to complete two questions out of four and I could have done a really good job on all of them! I really enjoyed that topic though, it was about the social psychological issues relating to sexual health of young people. I love a good debate and that topic is full of them. One exam question was to suggest new policies, so I was happy to make up wacky policies for awhile! :)

I can’t believe uni is over. What’s scary is I wanted this day to come for so long, now I’m annoyed about it because I need to find a job. Unfortunately I didn’t get postgraduate funding so I won’t be staying on to do a PhD, which is a little upsetting. I wasn’t too upset because I knew it was a long shot in the current economic climate, but I still hoped I’d be able to stay on and do research as I really enjoy it. Oh well! I’m trying to keep a focus on finishing my exams first, then worry about ‘the future’.

In more fun news, as a reward to myself so being super awesome during one of my exams and finishing uni I decided to buy myself something. For ages I’ve wanted a ukulele and a stylophone, so I bought myself them! Whisking it’s way to me is a gorgeous, shiny red ukulele! Strange things to buy? Yep. Completely awesome things to buy? Definitely! :)

Also, I’m going to see Art Brut again next week! :P I made a big deal about it last time, so I’ll try contain my excitement this time :) Current favourite song from the new album is Bad Comedian which sports the line, ’He dresses like he came free with the NME! How can you bear to hold his hand? I bet he signs his name in Comic Sans!’ <3 Aww, Comic Sans, “the most controversial font of our time”. Soo friendly! <3

Anyhoo, to pictures of my lovely long nails which I am mourning the loss of. I write faster with short nails so I cut them for my exams. I liked them the length and shape they were, but alas they had to go. I picked up this polish in Asda when I went to visit my family last month. It really stood out from the others on the huge stand of super cheap, but very nice polishes because is has a lovely blue/purple duochrome in it. Of course it is a nightmare to photograph, but I manged to get one, out of focus but accurate picture of it.

The polish was quite fast drying, but it was very sheer. I definitely needed 3-4 coats to get this finish, but it’s a gorgeous colour so it was worth it. I will definitely pick up more of these polishes if I see a colour that I like, for £1.50 you can’t go wrong!

Here is my out of focus attempt to capture that duochrome. My silly phone camera was obsessed with focusing on the background of everything that day. You can see the base of my nails are more purple? That’s what the polish looks like in real life, but I couldn’t capture it in a normal shot.

I gave myself the day off today from revision. Instead of resting or doing something fun I cleaned the windows, I was really bored not revising. I’m not right sometimes. When my instruments arrive I’ll be able to play with those instead! Do any of you lovely people play instruments? Or want to play one?

I hope everyones exams are going well and everyone is having a lovely week! :) xxxx

Eyeko Vampira and Mac Bad Fairy Tips

I’ve had one of those weekends when you feel really crumby and just sleep and melt into a non-existance. I’m feeling better now…in time for Monday morning ofc :P

I’ve been watching lots of dvd’s this weekend and I’ve got back into watching excessive amounts of X-files after Channel One was axed by Sky last week. Where will I get my Star Trek fix now?! Bah! I was really enjoying watching the old early 90′s episodes, they were super cheesy. I’ve also been listening to David Ford constantly, my LastFm account makes me look a bit obsessive. :s I cannot wait till his gig at the end of the month.

I also developed a fascination with subtitles. I dry my hair in front of the TV in the living room. If I dry my hair upstairs the room gets to hot and I keel over. My hair is getting long and taking ages to dry so I’ve been putting the news on with subtitles while I dry my hair. Everyday without fail there are always mistakes in the subtitles. Some are just silly and don’t make sense, but sometimes you get a word that is wrong that changes the whole meaning of the segment and totally throw me. This one occurred this morning:

“The floods are already effecting poems in Australia.”

After my double take I saw that ‘poems’ should have been ‘homes’, but my brain had already decided that all these Australian poets were writing lots about the floods. It made perfect sense. The floods are absolutely horrible and I assume poets will write about them, but I doubt that would make international news…

Anyway back to random rambling that makes slightly more sense! :)

This is another random taping of nails manicure. I really enjoy doing these and they are a great idea when you have premature tip wear on the polish you have on, but are too lazy to remove it just yet. :)

Here is Eyeko Vampira as the base. I had some minor tip wear on my index finger, but I had to be quick to go ot to a birthday party. So doing the tips was a great answer to my problem!

I taped off the tips are  random angles used Mac Bad Fairy. Over black Bad Fairy looks good with only one coat, which is quite important when using tape. I normally just tape it off, slop some polish on and take the tape off straight away. If you let the polish dry a little, the polish will probably come off with the tape, not so good when working with a polish that needs multiple coats.

I really liked the combo and I got quite a few compliments on them. Bad Fairy really shines under those harsh bar lights!

I would definitely do this combo again, but maybe do the tips all the same or another pattern, the colours really looked nice together! :)

Now for lots of pictures! I hope you all had a lovely weekend! :)

Accessorize Purple Dream

I couldn’t decide what to buy out of all the pretty Accessorize polishes. I wanted a purple colour and I was torn between Purple Passion and Purple Dream. I decided on Purple Dream because it has a lovely purple/blue duochrome.

This is two coats, they apply nicely, but if I tried to apply the second coat too quickly I end up dragging the polish a bit, which is annoying! Trying to remove polish from one nail without wrecking the other drying nails is funny to watch! :P

However, it is very difficult to photograph the blue in this polish, the lack of sunshine does not help. When I held my arm at an angle away from my body, my nails looked completely blue, but as soon as I tried to photograph it I couldn’t catch it. Below is the best picture I could get where you can kinda see the blue at the base of the nail.  I think I will need to grab a  few more of these Accessorize polishes, this one was really nice.

For now it is back to my lit review/essay/stimuli writing/research proposal/blog assignments…and all I have to look at out of the window is rain *groan* all grey and gloomy…meh. Hope everyone is having a good day and you are hopefully having a less grey day than here! I think it is soup timez!

Mac Bad Fairy

Here is Mac Bad Fairy from the Venomous Villain collection. Bad Fairy along with two other duochrome polishes are in the Maleficent (from sleeping beauty) set. The other two polishes are dupes of a couple of the Orly Cosmic FX polishes so I didn’t bother picking them up, but this one is really pretty and I wanted it as soon as I saw it. It is a pink/orange duochrome, quite subtle in some lights, but quite fiery in others. At some angles you can just see it as a pinkish colour, but when you move your hands you can see the orange flashes. It isn’t as extreme a duochrome to other polishes because the colours (pink/orange) are not as dissimilar as say Orly Space Cadet (green/purple), but I think it looks nice and makes the polish stand out as not just another shiny pink.

I made a trip a Bournemouth (my nearest Mac counter! Very annoying to have to travel, but I love visiting Bournemouth so it gives me a good excuse to go! :)) on the release day and they had plenty of stock, but it was selling very quickly. I picked up this and Dark Deed lipstick for autumn. I know other people have said that it is a bit crappy that there is no Disney packaging on the polishes, but that really didn’t bother me. Even on items that have the Disney characters on it isn’t really anything special. I quite like the Mac polish bottle anyway, with the rubberised lid and it’s quite sturdy.

The application is great, it needs 3 coats for full opacity. I didn’t have any brush problems(loose/splayed out bristles) that have been mentioned by some people. This is also the first polish I tested out my new Essie top coat over. It makes them super shiny! It’s my new favourite topcoat, no more bubbles that I always seem to have and it’s dry in less than 5 mins! Amazing! I will do a review on this later and try and compare finishes to my cheaper top coats. It really seems worthwhile to get a god top coat.

Also, I just realised, compared to previous posts my nails are really short in this one, they look sad. :( I went a bit far when I chopped them, I was watching a film and not really paying attention when filing them. Woops!

I hope everyone is wrapped up warm in this cold horrible weather! The heating has been firmly set to come on several times a day, once about 30 mins before my alarm. I don’t think I could get out of bed on these cold mornings without it! I hate my small house, but I love my combi! <3 Keep warm!

Orly Space Cadet

In honour of the return of Stargate Universe, here is Orly Space Cadet! I loved the first season of SGU, it was so suspenseful and stressful to watch, I had to save up several episodes on the Sky plus so I didn’t have the stress of cliff hangers every week! I’ve caught up with the first two episodes of season 2, and it is just as awesome as I remembered. Though I was left quite depressed after ep.2, as with a lot of sci-fi, they tend not to be too concerned about killing off characters. :( It’s still great though, I can’t wait till Tuesday!

Anyway, moving away from sci-fi. Space Cadet was my ending job/back to uni treat. I love it! The first coat looks utterly rubbish. I was ready for a huge disappointment after I applied first coat, it was like watery green mud…which isn’t very nice. However after another coat it looked great! I love the duo-chrome of the contrasting green/purple colours. The base is the dirty swamp water green colour and the duo-chrome glass flecks are purple/green-y gold.

It took several pictures to try and show the different duochrome colours.

Another plus about these glass flecked Orly polishes is that they last for ages with no tip wear or chipping. The only bad point is they are similar to a glitter to remove. It’s not too bad really, especially seeing how nice it looks.

After snapping many pictures at different angles I just took a video. I know it’s not very good quality, but at least you can see the colour change.
