Eyeko Cosmic and Mac Bad Fairy

Hello! I’m back and blogging! Hopefully more regularly now the exams are over and I’m working again. I’m just temping for now, but it’s better to be doing something rather than sitting at home fretting about finding work! I have taken many a picture of my nails and other make up things I’ve used lately, but I’ve only just got around to taking them all off my phone and cropping them. I have enough pictures for about a month’s worth of posts! I have really been slacking on the blogging front *slaps wrist*. I’m all set now, back on the horse, upping the ante, not putting off until tomorrow what I can do today, out of the woods, into the clear, it’s a piece of cake, easy as pie, I’m fresh as a daisy. Ok I’ll stop…I love cliché phrases! I have a thing about them. I love how many they are and that people say them without realising and that you can have a conversation using only clichés and still convey meaning. I’ll stop beating around the bush… :P

I have a couple of pictures with my stubby nails, but they are horrible, so I put this mani up first because it’s much nicer and I have nails again! :D My favourite black polish is Eyeko Cosmic. It’s not a true black, it has lots of subtle  multi-coloured micro glitter in it. Inside it looks plain black, but put a light on it and it looks lovely! I tried to capture the glitter in the pictures, the last overexposed flash picture kinda shows the amount of glitter. It’s a great polish, two coats to be opaque, fast drying and the glitter is fine enough so that it’s not bumpy. Also, it’s really easy to remove, no tin foil fingers with this polish!

I also added Mac Bad Fairy as an accent finger colour because it’s one of my favourite polishes and I thought it would look nice against the black. It’s a very thick polish and I find it needs 3 coats to look its best so it feels pretty thick on my nail, but it’s pretty so I don’t mind! Also, look how shiny and non-bubbly my nails are! Really love this Lumos top coat, you can even make out the reflection of my window in the first picture!

Sorry about the overexposure. I never use my camera flash for this reason, it makes everything look this way! It’s not so bad though as it does show the level of glitter in the polish and my middle finger looks quite cosmic and night-sky-esque.

I’m liking accent nails at the moment so expect to see a few more! :) What do you think of accent nails or multi-coloured nails? Do you like them, or do you prefer one colour? xxxx

Nails Inc Pallmall and Eyeko Chi Chi

Short post today, so sleepy!

I always wanted to try Eyeko Chi Chi polish. I love glitters and I don’t wear them enough. Chi Chi is a rosy pink glitter in a sheer pink base. It applies quite well and needs about 3 coats for the cover to be opaque. It dries pretty quickly for a glitter, which is always nice! Plus it was quite smooth after it was dry so I didn’t need lots of topcoat to make it smooth.

I put 3 coats on my ring finger to match my Nails Inc Pallmall polish. I think it jazzes up the more sensible look of Pallmall quite nicely. I think I’ll put it on all my fingers next time, it’s such a pretty glitter! :)

I added the glitter on just the one finger to test it while I was sat with hair dye on. I touch up my pink slices every 1-2 weeks, but so far I’ve normally had dark coloured polish on or at least I’ve not noticed this before. It might be the new dye, but look at my stained polish when I washed my hair dye off! That’s from only shampooing my hair! It’s a good job I have polish on all the time or my nails would be permanently stained. Maybe the pink dye would counteract the yellow staining from polish? Who knows! :P

The dissertation is nearly done! I just need to cut out 700 words and I’m finished! Easier said than done when you realise the word limit is 4000. Cutting out 700 words is a large chunk to remove without taking out important bits. I have a long night ahead!

I tried to finish before the weekend as I went to a wedding on Saturday, but it’s a beast of a document, so I’m still slaving away. The wedding was lovely though, very nice day, but after all the lovely weather the past few weeks it absolutely chucked it down! Now it’s back to lovely weather again, so unlucky for them! We weren’t really outside much so it didn’t really affect the day which is good though. It stopped long enough for them to get all the picture taken :)

Anyway I better get back to cutting out words! I’ll be so happy when I’m finished and can go back to reasonably normal stress levels! Hope you all had a lovely weekend! xxxx

Eyeko Petite Polish

I apologise for my lack of posts this last week or so. I also apologise to everyone and to myself for not having chance to read any blogs this week! I was really annoyed when I saw I had about 700+ unread posts and I knew I’d never have chance to catch up and marked them as read. It’s the first time in nearly a year I’ve had to do that. Stupid uni work! I am going to take time off this afternoon and do some blog reading in between the two essays I’m writing and the analysis of my data from my experiment. At least it looks like the experiment has worked, with a few bumps, but at least I’ll have something to talk about in the discussion I guess!

My to do list is quite insane at the moment, but I was very pleased to have completed one assignment at least. I had to give a presentation this week and I was really worried about it. My public speaking is a little rusty and I often look like a scared beetroot. It went ok I think, although I did forget my notes, my laser pointer and my engagement ring, which I took as a bad omen. The worst thing about it was the stress before giving it, when I was up there it wasn’t so bad because there wasn’t a lot I could do about it apart from just to give the presentation and get on with it. I have a 3 more presentations to give this month, so I’m sure I’ll be good at them by the time I’ve finished! Or a nervous wreck…

To make up for my lack of posting/commenting/reading here is a picture of my naughty kitty!

I always wondered what he was doing when I heard him monstering around the house at night and I also wondered where all my hairbands go! I thought I just lost them or misplaced them, but now I know….My cat steals them, plays with them and hides them! My OH caught him a couple of times, as soon as we turn off the lights to go to bed, he jumps straight up in front of my keyboard and looks for things to play with. It normally hairbands or sweetie wrappers. We find them dotted around the house the next day, after being woken up several times during the night because he is chasing whatever he has found down the stairs! Such a little monster! :p

Anyhoo, quick NOTD post today and I’m sorting out a Shiro Cosmetics post for tomorrow because my order arrived last week! I ordered some of the new lip products and they are fantastic! I’ll try get it sorted out for tomorrow :)

For now this is the polish I’ve been wearing all week. I ordered from Eyeko awhile ago and Eyeko Petite polish came as the free gift. I never tried it out at the time because it’s quite boring/ordinary and sheer. But this week, when I didn’t really have time to paint my nails and I didn’t want to leave them bare and slightly stained(!) I thought I’d give this polish a try. I’d been wearing brights and my holos for awhile, so I thought maybe a neutral would be a nice change.

The polish is really sheer and I believe it is made to be used as a French manicure base. I’d say it is perfect for that. This is three coats and as you can see, it just makes your nails look a pinky colour leaving a visible nail line. It makes my nails look quite clean and fresh, but also like I’m not wearing a polish. Whenever I want to have natural nails without my icky stains being visible this is definitely the polish I’ll reach for. To me this polish isn’t really a polish as I would define one. I like my polish to be obvious, but that isn’t to say that I don’t like this polish, it is perfect for when I want to look like I’m not wearing polish. If that makes any sense!? I feel like a driveling wreck today! So onto the pictures!

I chopped my nails a bit this week, I don’t like it. I preferred them the length they were in this picture. I need to learn how to keep my nails the same length, I guess by filing them? I always grow them, chop them off and hate them for a few weeks until they grow. I don’t really like filing them, it seems to take ages! Maybe I need to invest in a good quality nail file? What do you lovely people do with your nails? :)

Have a fantastic weekend and I hope to catch up on all your lovely blogs soon! xxx

Eyeko Vampira and Mac Bad Fairy Tips

I’ve had one of those weekends when you feel really crumby and just sleep and melt into a non-existance. I’m feeling better now…in time for Monday morning ofc :P

I’ve been watching lots of dvd’s this weekend and I’ve got back into watching excessive amounts of X-files after Channel One was axed by Sky last week. Where will I get my Star Trek fix now?! Bah! I was really enjoying watching the old early 90′s episodes, they were super cheesy. I’ve also been listening to David Ford constantly, my LastFm account makes me look a bit obsessive. :s I cannot wait till his gig at the end of the month.

I also developed a fascination with subtitles. I dry my hair in front of the TV in the living room. If I dry my hair upstairs the room gets to hot and I keel over. My hair is getting long and taking ages to dry so I’ve been putting the news on with subtitles while I dry my hair. Everyday without fail there are always mistakes in the subtitles. Some are just silly and don’t make sense, but sometimes you get a word that is wrong that changes the whole meaning of the segment and totally throw me. This one occurred this morning:

“The floods are already effecting poems in Australia.”

After my double take I saw that ‘poems’ should have been ‘homes’, but my brain had already decided that all these Australian poets were writing lots about the floods. It made perfect sense. The floods are absolutely horrible and I assume poets will write about them, but I doubt that would make international news…

Anyway back to random rambling that makes slightly more sense! :)

This is another random taping of nails manicure. I really enjoy doing these and they are a great idea when you have premature tip wear on the polish you have on, but are too lazy to remove it just yet. :)

Here is Eyeko Vampira as the base. I had some minor tip wear on my index finger, but I had to be quick to go ot to a birthday party. So doing the tips was a great answer to my problem!

I taped off the tips are  random angles used Mac Bad Fairy. Over black Bad Fairy looks good with only one coat, which is quite important when using tape. I normally just tape it off, slop some polish on and take the tape off straight away. If you let the polish dry a little, the polish will probably come off with the tape, not so good when working with a polish that needs multiple coats.

I really liked the combo and I got quite a few compliments on them. Bad Fairy really shines under those harsh bar lights!

I would definitely do this combo again, but maybe do the tips all the same or another pattern, the colours really looked nice together! :)

Now for lots of pictures! I hope you all had a lovely weekend! :)

Eyeko Fat Balms (Toffee, Minty, Frosting and Cherry)

I love Eyeko Fat Balms! I now have all of them, but here is the first four I bought. I’ve had them a month or so now and I wear them constantly during the day. The only problem I have is deciding which one to use! They come in these large tubes, but they are actually quite short and stumpy so them still happily fit in a small handbag. It takes some getting used to to apply them on your lips without getting it all over the surrounding area as well, but it not too bad as long as you are careful. :P

They come in lovely, cute cardboard boxes. I’ve snapped a picture of every side for you to see how sweet they are. :)

Here are the swatches on my arm of the Eyeko Fat Balms in Toffee, Minty, Frosting and Cherry. I think I bought three of them as a set (The sweet treats set – Toffee, Frosting and Cherry) and the extra one I added in as I really want to try the Minty one. I have a serious obsession with anything minty. In fact I am eating a mint now, my mum stocks my cupboards with mints and peppermint candy canes at Christmas, enough to last me all year! :)

The texture of the fat balms is such like a normal, moisturising balm, but they have a surprisingly great colour pay off. They also all have their own flavour/smell. None of them are strong or nasty, just nice and tasty! My favourite is obviously Minty, it is very fresh and makes your lips tingle, but Frosting and Cherry are a close second. Frosting smells like cupcakes and Cherry is such a lovely red.

You can also use these as a blush, but I didn’t really like it. I had a go with Frosting and it was a lovely colour, but I prefer to work with powder. The balm was difficult to blend for me, but if you are used to cream blushers you might have better luck! They don’t leave your cheeks sticky and they do leave a great colour that lasts. Mine such looked bad due to shoddy application! :p

The first swatch is in daylight next to a window and the second is away from the window to show you how the balms have light reflecting particles. I think it really helps make my lips looks fuller.

Finally here are the lip swatches. I took these one after another and then I swatched a couple of red lipsticks. You have no idea how hard it was to figure out which swatch was which when I transferred them to my computer! Starting at the top and going down in order it is, Toffee, Minty, Frosting and Cherry. Frosting and Cherry look quite similar in these pictures, but Frosting is defiantly more of a bright pink and Cherry is more of a darker red. I really love them all. I was lacking Strawberry and Raspberry, but I bought them recently and I’ll swatch them soon.

Eyeko Vampira

I am having a manic week this week. I’ve spent the last 3 days re-writing my literature review from scratch. It may have been a painful few days, but it’s all come together quite well! I’m pleased that I only have a few more hours of work to do on it and with 2 days left till hand in, I feel quite organised for once! W00t!

To celebrate I had a lovely pizza delivered and I am now finally going to watch Wonder Boys, a film a friend gave me to watch, with my Moskovskaya vodka. I feel quite relaxed for someone who has 2 big hand ins on Thursday and 2 exams next week. Maybe my stress levels peaked and are have been at this level for so long I have become accustomed to it? Meh. I’m sure it’ll be fine. Anyhoo, before I disappear for the next 2 weeks for exam time I have an old NOTD for you all.

This is Eyeko Vampira. I bought this awhile ago with Eyeko Cosmic, but I never took any pictures of it. It is a red glitter in a sheer black base which after 2 or 3 coats is opaque. It is very similar to Cosmic, but with red instead of multi coloured glitter. In dull light the colour looks plain black, but in the light you can see all the red glitter.

I really like this polish. Vampira and Cosmic are my go to polish for black nails because they apply really nicely and I like the the subtle glitter. I tried to capture the red glitter in the pictures, but it’s winter so light is limited. I have been trying to decide whether to invest in a daylight lamp. I want one not just for picture taking, but mostly because I’ve been getting eye strain from working in dull light. They seem a bit pricey though, they are about £40 on Amazon. Hmm, think what else I could buy for that :p

I wish any of you who are experiencing the pain of exam time good luck! It will all be over soon! I’ve scheduled a few posts for over the next 2 weeks, but I probably won’t be commenting or reading so many of your lovely blogs until the stress is over, which sucks :( Wish me luck and see you in a little while! xxxx

Eyeko London Lips Lip Gloss Primrose Hill and Shoreditch

Here is a review of two of the Eyeko London Lips lip glosses. Below is a swatch of the two glosses I received in my Eyeko surprise gift bags. The top one is Shoreditch and the bottom is Primrose Hill. I have amassed a collection of lip glosses from lots of different places in the last year, from No7 and Rimmel to Mac and Illamasqua. There is a surprising difference between them all. Some are thick and sticky, others are thin or more like vaseline. These Eyeko ones are similar in stickiness to the Mac lip glosses I have. They are sticky, but not in a bad way. It is more that that stick to your lips well than your lips to each other, if that makes any sense! They are sticky, but in a good way. With thin lip glosses I fine myself wanting to wipe them off if they are slippy or I find I have to reapply them often. These Eyeko ones are great as once they are on you are set for hours. The only time I’ve had to reapply is after eating, I haven’t got the hang of how to eat without wrecking lipstick/lip gloss. :P They are a little annoying to apply as they just come in a squeezable lip gloss tube, there is no brush. I normally just use my finger or the tube.

Shoreditch (top) – Primrose Hill (bottom)

Eyeko says:

“Make way for Eyeko London Lips Lip Gloss poured into pretty tubes stamped with iconic London images. Long-lasting colour and non-stick shine make for smooth application in a choice of 3 sheer and 3 cream blends. Eyeko London Lips are sweetly scented with a fruity fragrance and available in six lust-worthy shades.”

Primrose Hill

A pretty lilac shimmer for girls on the go. This suits-all shade is ultra flattering.

Shoreditch
Creamy rose makes for a flirty lip look! Whether you’re browsing in Brick Lane or partying in Hoxton Square.

Below is what they look like on the lips. The top picture is with nothing on. The second is Primrose Hill and the third is Shoreditch.

Primrose Hill is a sheer pink with a gold shimmer and is a really flattering sheer pink and the shimmer is noticeable. I think this is my favourite.

Shoreditch is one of the creamy finishes and it is a lovely rosy pink colour. The camera hasn’t picked up the differences between the glosses very well, but Shoreditch looks creamier on the lips and Primrose Hill looks shinier with its gold shimmer.

They both smell lovely and fruity, but they are not at all over powering. I think these are great lip glosses and I definitely want to try the other colours too. I want to try Soho which is the hot pink gloss. It looks lovely and if it is the same as these two I’m sure I’ll love it! :)

Eyeko Cheeky Colour Blush Duo

I love these blushes from Eyeko. I have been using Meow Cosmetics Taboo blush in Nudity since the summer with Benefit High Beam as a highlighter. I don’t really own any other blushers and I never think to look for any because I had one that I liked. However, when I saw these new blusher/highlighters from Eyeko I wanted to try them. Luckily I received these two in the surprise gift bags and I’m really happy about that! :) I received My Coral Crush (for a pretty peach glow) and Glow Getter (for a pretty pearly glow).

Eyeko says:

“Baked pressed powders highly pigmented with finely milled pearlescent shimmer for a long-lasting flush of colour.  Each double-sided compact features duo colour blush on one side and mirror and mini-blush brush on the other, perfect for touch ups on the go.”

My Coral Crush

Peachy keen!  Get your glow on with shimmery coral colour for a flattering blush look.

Glow Getter

Pale iridescent pink, perfect for a pinch of colour for pale skinned beauties or as flattering highlighter for dark skinned honeys.

My review:

Below are the swatches on my arm. As you can see My Coral Crush is packed with colour and you really don’t need a lot on the brush. It is a very warming blush and I have used it this week while I’ve been feeling under the weather and I’ve looked pretty much alive after putting it on! :) The blusher colour is on the left and highlighter on the right. The blush colour is a coral colour and the highlighter is a more orange coral that warms up the blush and the highlighter also has shimmer in it so the light bounces off your cheekbones.

Glow Getter is my favourite! It is perfect for pale skin. The blush colour is on the right and the highlighter is on the left. The blush colour has a good colour pay off like the coral blush, but is more buildable. With My Coral Crush you only need one swipe of the brush, but with Glow Getter you can have a sheer wash of pink or more colour if you require. I tend to put two layers of colour on to get my perfect pink.  The highlighter in Glow Getter is really shimmery, more shimmery than the coral highlighter. I really like it, you can see the light reflecting as soon as you put it on.

The blush lasts really well. I can still see it after an 8 hour day. Maybe not as noticeable as when you first put it on, but with the handy brush and mirror packaging you can re-apply if you wish! :)

They come in a cute little cardboard box. Inside that is the plastic packaging that can open two ways. The top can open to get to the colour and the bottom can open to get to a little brush and a mirror! It’s a nice touch. I don’t really use the brush that came with it. It’s not bad, but I prefer my blusher brush, but for on-the-go application it would be fine to use.

Finally, below is what they look like on. The top picture is Glow Getter and the bottom is My Coral Crush. I wish the lighting was better today. :/ The main difference between them is obviously that one is pink  based and one is coral based. Glow Getter gives a lovely fresh pink cheeked glow and My Coral Crush gives a lovely warm glow.

I love these blush/highlighter duos and would not hesitate to recommend them. I admit that I don’t have much experience with lots of different blushers/highlighters, but I am really impressed with these. There is one more I don’t have which is ‘Make Out Blush‘, it is a darker pink blush and I will probably order this one soon. :) Has anyone else tried out any of the new Eyeko products? I have a few Fat Balms in the post too, if they ever arrive with the snow ruining the postal service! I think I have gone a bit Eyeko mad lately. :)

Eyeko Haul Surprise Party Gift Set

I have a slight obsession with Eyeko at the moment. They recently released lots of new things and had several offers going on. The last two week they have had offers on their surprise gift bags. You pay £10 or £15 pounds and receive random items worth around double the value you pay. The first week the offer was £10 for a surprise bag of all new products. I liked all the new stuff, but hadn’t yet bought any so this was ideal for me. I received the items in the top picture. It contained: Magic Bronzer in Rio, London Lips lip gloss in Primrose Hill (a light pink with gold shimmer) and something I really really wanted and was happy about about, one of the new Cheeky Colour Blush Duo’s in Glow Getter.

The following week, about a day or two after receiving my first lot of goodies they had another surprise gift bag offer for £15 and you receive more goodies. I knew it was more of a risk this time as I already had some and could get doubles, but then I thought…well I like them all I wouldn’t mind getting doubles! This time it was random items from the whole Eyeko collection and I received the items in the bottom picture. Another Cheeky Colour Blush Duo, this time in My Coral Crush again something I was very happy about getting! Another London Lips lip gloss in Shoreditch (a mid pink), two Graffiti liners in purple and blue and another Magic Bronzer again in Rio.

Annoyingly the only thing I wouldn’t use from these is the bronzer and I have two of them! I’m far too pale for this bronzer, Rio is the darkest of the three bronzers available. As you can see below it is quite dark. The first swatch is blended and the other is a finger swatch which I haven’t blended so you can see the colour.

I was happy to received the Graffiti liners too as I have been using a black one from Topshop recently and I quite like the felt tip liners. However, I still need lots of practice as I take forever to put it on or make a mess of it. I’m too used to using kohl pencils, which I’m not sure why, but they seem easier to use to me. Below is a swatch of the blue and purple liners. The blue is great for daytime looks, I use it when I don’t want the harsh black. The purple is my favourite as it is a quite bright, true purple colour. They both last really well and the best thing about the Graffiti liners is you can draw really thin or thick lines with ease.

I will review the lip glosses and blushes in another post at the weekend. :)

I am just having a quick break from writing my lit review. It is going quite well, but my Christmas ’to do list’ is getting longer and if I don’t finish my Christmas cards I’ll have to send them out next Christmas! I made some Christmas cards myself this year. I was quite pleased with them, until I realised I’d spent an hour making only 6 cards and I was covered in glue. Then the phone rang…you can imagine the fun sight of me covered in beads and glue attempting to have a sensible conversation with my boss and trying not to get my phone glued to my face.  I think I’ll just buy a pack of cards! I have to go into uni tomorrow, but I’m hoping I can do a big Christmas shopping and posting sweep tomorrow afternoon, I’m going to be cutting it close this year! The uni term officially ends tomorrow, yay for time off! Hope you are all sorted for Christmas and hopefully not leaving it till the last minute! x

Eyeko Vintage

It was my last day of summer work yesterday, I’m quite sad about it. I don’t want to go back to being a student! Nine more months and I’ll be free of lectures/exams/essays, can’t wait! :) I have cognitive heavy modules this semester so I’m quite happy about that, but I do have a 9am Monday morning lecture, groan… :( I’m looking forward to my third year big project though. :)

So it’s my last weekend of freedom, I intend to watch a lot of bad films and completely veg out and hopefully I’ll be able to get up on Monday to be in for 9, going to be difficult as I have been getting up at 10-11am (closer to 11 really) everyday all summer. My natural sleeping patterns don’t seem to align well with the 9-5 world. How about everyone else? Morning larks or night owls?

On to the mission!

Untried No. 1!

I’ve had this awhile, swatched it on one finger, but never wore it as a whole manicure. I’m on a mission to try all my untried! So here is the first one, Eyeko Vintage. I like Eyeko polishes, especially the blacks such as Cosmic and Vampira. This polish has the same consistency, it’s a little watery, but easy to handle. The first coat is pretty much bleurgh…very transparent and streaky, but after added a second coat it turns into this…a nice soft, vintage mint green shade.

I really like the colour, but I don’t think it suits me. It makes my skin look very yellow. I think that’s why I’ve been avoiding it after my first swatch of it. It’s a shame because it’s a really nice green and a nice polish! I was tempted to put GOSH Rainbow over the top to see what that looks like, but I’m low on remover and didn’t want to be battling to remove it later on! :) Anyway, I’m going to leave it on and see if it grows on me. How do normal people (i.e.people with a brain) decide if a colour will suit?  I look at the picture and it doesn’t seem too bad, but when I have in on my nails all day it just doesn’t look right.
