Lush Goodies Review
I’ve had this as a draft post for ages and figured I might as well post it! :)
Before Christmas I went to Lush and bought some things, mostly from the Christmas range. My house was freezing over winter so I ended up not using much. I probably only had one bath and I’m sure I got out of it quickly! While in Lush I picked up Cinders, which was advertised to me by the little Lush helpers as a warming Christmas bath and “It has popping candy in it, but don’t eat it…”, obvious I look like someone who would need to be told this…
I also to picked up Snow Fairy as the idea of a shower gel with sparkles and a candyfloss smell made me happy, I had to try it! I also bought the Snow Fairy Lip Tint and a Iridescent Glitterbug Glitter Bar. There was definitely a sparkly theme developing on this Lush trip! Here are my reviews below:
Cinders – This is a warming bath bomb, smaller than other bath bombs in Lush. It smelt really nice and I had the water really warm. It was really nice especially with the weather being so cold. It has popping candy in it that fizz and when you take the half dissolved Cinders out of the water it really looks like fire cinders. I liked this bath bomb, it wasn’t a ‘wow, I must buy more!’ kinda thing, but it was nice…and no I didn’t eat it.
Lush says - Bathing with Cinders is like falling asleep in front of a log fire and hearing the crackling embers as the snow falls down. Warming cinnamon, refreshing sweet orange and almond essential oils will make your day every time you have a bath.
Snow Fairy Shower Gel – This smells lovely, looks cute and has lots of blue sparkles in the bottle. I love it! I have only just ran out of this a couple of weeks ago, so it lasted a crazily long time! It leaves my skin feeling soft and sweet smelling. :D
Lush says – Washing your body with the pink, ethereal fairy will make you smell like freshly spun candyfloss at a fairground, and your entire body will glitter with the magic of the fae all through the day.
Snow Fairy Lip Tint – I normally dislike any lip balms that come in a pot like this, where you have to stick your fingers in it and you get all sticky and the stuff under your nails etc, yuck! I like this lip tint though as it has a coconut oil base which is actually quite hard at room temperature and you have to rub your finger on it to warm it up. Plus it isn’t very deep so you don’t get all the goo under your nails either. I love the smell of it, it’s kind of a bubblegum flavour. Plus it is a cute bubblegum pink, it doesn’t leave your lips bright pink, but it does tint them nicely. Plus it isn’t too gooey that your hair sticks to it, but it is lovely and moisturising. Now I just have to stop licking my lips!
Lush says – When inventing the lip balm, Helen wondered what kind of things the Snow Fairies would eat, which led her onto a sugar confection idea of perfection. She combined moisturising butters with icing sugar and fizzing sherbet for sweetness and texture, and dried raspberries for fruitiness. After all, the fairies need sugar, too
Iridescent Glitterbug Glitter Bar – The lovely girl in Lush told me these are going soon and I think they have completely gone now. :( At the time I wasn’t too concerned, but now I’m upset because I really like it! I have be using this on my arms every evening, mostly because I love the smell! Does anything else in Lush have this smell? Anyway, since using this my arms are sooo soft and it smells so gorgeous in bed, and everything is now covered in the iridescent sparkles. I often wake up with them all over my face and when my OH came home from work the other day I realised he had some on his face! I’m sure that went down well when he was teaching students that day…woops!
Lush says - Our Iridescent Glitterbug has a beautiful scent of rose and neroli, which is made from the tiny flowers of a citrus tree, with a hint of sweet vanilla. It came from a ‘Glitter Phase’ that gave birth to some of our most magical products. It has shiny sparkles, pale bluish mauve fairy dust, with moisturising cocoa and shea butters to keep your skin smooth, soft and flexible. It’s shaped like a mystical scarab.
So there you go! I’ve only got half a bubble bar and a Butterball left in my Lush stash I need to go again and stock up! Any reccommendations?! :) x
Mini haul!
I hope everyone’s Christmas shopping is going well! I am yet to do any, as I’ve had lots of assignments due in and I haven’t really felt Christmasy with all the deadlines looming. I handed in my last assignment due before Christmas today and felt fantastic! Not during the last hour of panic trying to get it finished I didn’t, but after it was gone I felt good! I have only 2 minutes to spare before the deadline and my file was so large it took ages to upload and I was convinced I would miss the deadline and loose marks. Thankfully it went through ok and I’m glad it’s over! 6000 words on attentional blink and peripheral visual cues in aviation…groan! So now it the time for Christmas shopping and after the uni breaks up next week I probably won’t know what to do with all my free time! I can’t wait! :D I know I will be drinking plenty more of the below after my mum gave me my annual Christmas gift package of sweeties, consisting of lots of mint chocolate (after dinner mints, matchmakers, etc), Smarties (which I’ve loved since I was really small, I dread to thin how many thousands I’ve eaten) and marshmellows! Yum yum!
I have been cheeky and selfish and nipped into town for a pre-christmas shopping mini haul. I don’t like going into town when it is busy on my own, I’m quite jumpy so I am a bit ‘ARGH’ when over-stimulating! I had to go into town to get visitor parking permits and then had to wait around for the OH so we could go food shopping. I decided to mull around town and it was scarily busy, I can’t believe the Christmas shopping rush is here already! There is a Christmas market in Southampton at the moment so the high street smells lovely of mince pies and mulled wine. It took me about 20 minutes to wander around Boots grabbing goodies, but after a lot of dodging and diving out of peoples way I got myself a nice little haul! Boots have a 3 for 2 on make up at the moment, which is great!
I picked up a lovely Revlon purple nail varnish called Plum Seduction, a 17 Mirror Shine lipstick in Peace and the rather disturbing green Barry M Touch of Magic Lip Paint. I’d seen it recently on another blog and wanted to have a go, especially as I’ve heard it stains and I like lip stains especially in winter where I want to put balm on constantly. I bought some cute butterfly hair clips from the kiddies hair section on Boots, they are so sweet! Much nicer than the boring stuff in the adult ‘normal’ section. :P I have far too many kiddie hair clips, but they are too cute not to buy them and they were only £3.
I also grabbed some new earrings from a jewellers, a pair for my mum (stars) and a pair for me (butterflies)! :P I like them, they are quite plain and I can sleep in them without worrying about them falling out or hurting my ears. I’m too lazy to change my earrings before bed every night. Are you meant to do that? I dunno now I think about it. I never take my earring out unless to change them to something else. Although I have multiple close ball rings (cbr) which I can’t physically remove without pliers, so they aren’t going anywhere!
I had a wander around other shops, but nothing caught my eye, but I was quite proud I’d survived a busy town trip and was quite enjoying not having to turn round and see the sad, trailing site of my OH wishing he had not agreed to go shopping! It was quite fun as everyone I spoke to was really happy and chatty, maybe the Christmas spirit is in the air! :D I’ll review all these soon, but I can say that I love the Revlon purple nail polish, I’ve had it on all week, my new favourite. :)
When does everyone else break up for Christmas? Are you all looking forward to the Christmas break or is that a silly question?! :D
Lush Haul
It is weird, I used to live and work in Poole (where Lush is made), but I’ve never really bought anything from there! As a treat for surviving a long week I went to town and bought myself some Lush goodies.
The girl in Lush was lovely, she was really nice and covered in glitter! She showed me some nice things and I ended up buying two bath ballistics, a scrub bar and a shower scrub.
Rub Rub Rub - A blue, shower gel/salt scrub that comes in a black pot. I love this, I like scrubs and this is half shower gel, half scrub. It is lemony and when you wash it off it feels like an oil and leaves your skin all soft and smooth. I will definitely buy this again. It is also less scratchy than a sugar scrub, so would suit almost everyone. I didn’t try this as a shampoo as I have bright coloured hair that I’d like to keep coloured! I’m not sure what a scrub shampoo would be like, a bit weird I assume, salty dandruff.
Lush says – Sea salt shower scrub Rub Rub Rub is a bit of a variation on the normal shower gel. Sea salt is gently exfoliating, extra cleansing and mineral rich. This new blue scrub is startlingly refreshing, with a dash of lemon juice and the tropical scent of mimosa blossom. Smooth it all over your body; you can even use it as a shampoo.
Sugar Babe – A sugar scrub with a coconut oil centre. There are lots of reviews about this being painful to use and that it melts in the shower. It is a very fragile bar, I slightly squished it to test how soft it was and put my thumb right through it! I made it into a paste before using it. I had just finished a scrub from Waitrose that came in a glass jar. So I crumbled the bar up and added a really tiny amount of water, probably a tablespoon full. I then just stirred it together with my finger and made sure the coconut oil that was in the middle was all mixed in. It ended up a lovely pale pink colour. It has a lovely sweet smell and if you mash it up into a paste it lasts 4+ washes. If you don’t like rough scrubs, this may be one to avoid. If you don’t mind, this is probably the best scrub you’ve ever used for so little money! :)
Lush says – Sugar Babe is a gentle alternative to the intensity of Sugar Scrub. It’s a mix of sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar, which makes it sound more like a cake than a cosmetic, and moisturising coconut oil.
Twilight Bath Ballistic - A purple, lavender bath bomb with a blue centre. My first bath bomb! It was lovely, I didn’t take any pictures, but it made the water all purple, then the blue fizzed out from the centre and left a purple and swirly blue bath with a few bits of glitter as well, but not too many, you don’t end up covered in sparkles. It was lovely, smelt really nice, and made my skin really soft. I wanted to go to sleep afterwards! :) I didn’t take a picture as I’m clumsy and phone+bath water+me= disaster!
Lush says -Twilight softens your entire body, and it even twinkles like starlight as the glitter is released. When it fizzes, the shift from pink to indigo looks like the sun setting in the night sky. It’s the most relaxing bath-time treat yet and will transform you from Edward Sullen to a human being again.
Dragons Egg Bath Ballistic – A white bath bomb with a gold centre. The lovely girl in Lush showed me it makes the water full of lovely gold glitter. When I put mine in the bath it broke in two and the white half bobbed around in the water and the gold bit fizzed around and made the water all orange/gold. The centre of the orange bit had a cube of fizzy gold glitter which filled the water with lots of gold sparkles. It smells great too, like lemon sherbet! It left my skin lovely and soft and I had the odd sprinkle of gold glitter all over when I got out the bath. I really liked this, but you have to distract yourself from the fact you are sat in pee coloured water, it looks like the dragon egg hatched and the baby dragon had an accident! :S It’s lovely apart from that!
Lush says – As you bathe in the whirlpool of vibrant, fiery colour and inhale the refreshing sherbet scent of lemon and bergamot, you’ll feel like you’re up and away on the back of your own dragon. Popping candy pops around you, glitter swirls in shimmering circles and your bath becomes the birthing ground of a baby dragon. Well, in a way. When you drop these eggs into the water, they crack open to reveal plumes of orange fizz that look like a baby dragon breathing fire as it hatches into the world.
A successful first Lush haul! I have been back once since then and I have some of the Christmas range to review. I am currently loving the smell of Snow Fairy!
Bournemouth Mac Haul
Edit: I realised I still have un-tried polishes to go through and I’ve bought another new polish, but how could I resist Bad Fairy?! :)
I had an awesome time in Bournemouth. I didn’t really do much while I was there apart from a bit of shopping and seeing the in laws. I spent quite awhile in Segapark or leisure-whatever-it’s-called-now. It’s an arcade. I was completely thrashed on both Time Crisis and Dance, Dance Revolution. It was a close battle I swear! I also popped into Metal Fatigue to get one piercing removed and get another one, so I have some lovely bruises now. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to approach me with something sharp, I highly recommend Sarge at Metal Fatigue if anyone is in the south of England and wants any piercings. He is awesome.
While I was in Bournemouth I made my first trip to a Mac counter, which was fun. I picked up a couple of things from the Venomous Villains collection. Bad Fairy nail polish and Dark Deed lipstick, both from the Maleficent collection. I love dark lipstick and I can get away with it more now my hair is darker.
The lipstick is lovely, it is definitely not drying, which is my main annoyance with most lipsticks and the colour is very pigmented and lasts pretty well. It can be worn either as an ordinary lipstick, which is quite dark and shiny, or applied lightly it looks good as a dark, berry stain. I will do a post on Bad Fairy when I’ve tried it out. My nails suffered on the train, so I now need to cut them all down after my thumb fell in the battle between arm rest and thumbnail. :( Did anyone else have a look at the Venomous Villains in Mac?
Bad Fairy nail polish and Dark Deed lipstick
I also picked up the new Barry M black crackle nail polish which I’ll cover in another post. It’s is quite cool to watch it crackle! I wasn’t sure if I’d like the random crackle effects as they are unpredictable what they will look like and you might have some good and some awful nails, but I quite like the effect. I think I have the knack of it now and it seems dependent on how much polish is on the brush. I shall put a post together soon.
I have lots of work to do this weekend. One week back at uni and I have loads of work to do already! I’m hoping to get it all done tomorrow and spend Sunday relaxing. I spent last weekend watching all 3 Lord of the Rings films, I forgot how awesome the LOTR films were. I really wanted to see Art Goblins and Mr Solo play in London this weekend, but I just couldn’t afford it. I wish I had learnt to drive so I could go to London without staying in a hotel over night. Does everyone drive? I don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford the cost of starting the learn – lessons/car/petrol/insurance etc.
Models Own Facebook Sale Haul
Yuck, horrible wet weather. I’m going out with a coat&hood and an umbrella and still getting drenched! The less we talk about my “exploding-to-moisture-in-the-air-hair” the better!
In better news, my Models Own order arrived on Tuesday, yay! I’m very pleased with this little splurge, the picture below shows what I received. I don’t have enough glitters so I’ve got a few this order, I’ll regret it come time to remove them! :p

Top Row L-R – Lili’s Pink, Blue Med, Magenta Pearl, Cherry Pie, Sterling Silver, 25 Caret Gold
Bottom Row L-R – 3 in 1 Base coat/Top coat & Gloss, Purple Grey, Top Turquoise, Magenta Devine, Emerald City, Pink Fizz, Green Flash, Mystic Mauve
First I had to try the on-trend colour at the moment that is Purple Grey. It’s a nice colour and it is very similar to swatches I’ve seen of Chanel’s Paradoxal, apart from that slight purple sparkle, which is absent in the Models Own one. The application was great, one coat, no streaks, no dragging, no bubbles! I was a happy bunny! Especially as whenever I apply a darkish colour I seem to loose the use of my hands and just paint polish over half my hand. I took some pictures, but alas this beastly weather made them look terrible. I’ll grab some pictures as soon as possible, probably next June at this rate!
I have never tried Models Own make up. I don’t really wear eye shadow, I have a favourite mascara and plenty of eye pencils, but one thing caught my eye awhile ago that I wanted to try. The Neon Lip and Face Paint, it looks fun! I got the neon pink one and I shall review this at a later date.
Well…I apologies for the lack of pictures, I don’t have a good enough camera to compensate for the lack of sunlight. Hopefully when the rain stops I’ll be able to snap a few. :)
Stay dry!x
