Lush Goodies Review
I’ve had this as a draft post for ages and figured I might as well post it! :)
Before Christmas I went to Lush and bought some things, mostly from the Christmas range. My house was freezing over winter so I ended up not using much. I probably only had one bath and I’m sure I got out of it quickly! While in Lush I picked up Cinders, which was advertised to me by the little Lush helpers as a warming Christmas bath and “It has popping candy in it, but don’t eat it…”, obvious I look like someone who would need to be told this…
I also to picked up Snow Fairy as the idea of a shower gel with sparkles and a candyfloss smell made me happy, I had to try it! I also bought the Snow Fairy Lip Tint and a Iridescent Glitterbug Glitter Bar. There was definitely a sparkly theme developing on this Lush trip! Here are my reviews below:
Cinders – This is a warming bath bomb, smaller than other bath bombs in Lush. It smelt really nice and I had the water really warm. It was really nice especially with the weather being so cold. It has popping candy in it that fizz and when you take the half dissolved Cinders out of the water it really looks like fire cinders. I liked this bath bomb, it wasn’t a ‘wow, I must buy more!’ kinda thing, but it was nice…and no I didn’t eat it.
Lush says - Bathing with Cinders is like falling asleep in front of a log fire and hearing the crackling embers as the snow falls down. Warming cinnamon, refreshing sweet orange and almond essential oils will make your day every time you have a bath.
Snow Fairy Shower Gel – This smells lovely, looks cute and has lots of blue sparkles in the bottle. I love it! I have only just ran out of this a couple of weeks ago, so it lasted a crazily long time! It leaves my skin feeling soft and sweet smelling. :D
Lush says – Washing your body with the pink, ethereal fairy will make you smell like freshly spun candyfloss at a fairground, and your entire body will glitter with the magic of the fae all through the day.
Snow Fairy Lip Tint – I normally dislike any lip balms that come in a pot like this, where you have to stick your fingers in it and you get all sticky and the stuff under your nails etc, yuck! I like this lip tint though as it has a coconut oil base which is actually quite hard at room temperature and you have to rub your finger on it to warm it up. Plus it isn’t very deep so you don’t get all the goo under your nails either. I love the smell of it, it’s kind of a bubblegum flavour. Plus it is a cute bubblegum pink, it doesn’t leave your lips bright pink, but it does tint them nicely. Plus it isn’t too gooey that your hair sticks to it, but it is lovely and moisturising. Now I just have to stop licking my lips!
Lush says – When inventing the lip balm, Helen wondered what kind of things the Snow Fairies would eat, which led her onto a sugar confection idea of perfection. She combined moisturising butters with icing sugar and fizzing sherbet for sweetness and texture, and dried raspberries for fruitiness. After all, the fairies need sugar, too
Iridescent Glitterbug Glitter Bar – The lovely girl in Lush told me these are going soon and I think they have completely gone now. :( At the time I wasn’t too concerned, but now I’m upset because I really like it! I have be using this on my arms every evening, mostly because I love the smell! Does anything else in Lush have this smell? Anyway, since using this my arms are sooo soft and it smells so gorgeous in bed, and everything is now covered in the iridescent sparkles. I often wake up with them all over my face and when my OH came home from work the other day I realised he had some on his face! I’m sure that went down well when he was teaching students that day…woops!
Lush says - Our Iridescent Glitterbug has a beautiful scent of rose and neroli, which is made from the tiny flowers of a citrus tree, with a hint of sweet vanilla. It came from a ‘Glitter Phase’ that gave birth to some of our most magical products. It has shiny sparkles, pale bluish mauve fairy dust, with moisturising cocoa and shea butters to keep your skin smooth, soft and flexible. It’s shaped like a mystical scarab.
So there you go! I’ve only got half a bubble bar and a Butterball left in my Lush stash I need to go again and stock up! Any reccommendations?! :) x
Lush Haul
It is weird, I used to live and work in Poole (where Lush is made), but I’ve never really bought anything from there! As a treat for surviving a long week I went to town and bought myself some Lush goodies.
The girl in Lush was lovely, she was really nice and covered in glitter! She showed me some nice things and I ended up buying two bath ballistics, a scrub bar and a shower scrub.
Rub Rub Rub - A blue, shower gel/salt scrub that comes in a black pot. I love this, I like scrubs and this is half shower gel, half scrub. It is lemony and when you wash it off it feels like an oil and leaves your skin all soft and smooth. I will definitely buy this again. It is also less scratchy than a sugar scrub, so would suit almost everyone. I didn’t try this as a shampoo as I have bright coloured hair that I’d like to keep coloured! I’m not sure what a scrub shampoo would be like, a bit weird I assume, salty dandruff.
Lush says – Sea salt shower scrub Rub Rub Rub is a bit of a variation on the normal shower gel. Sea salt is gently exfoliating, extra cleansing and mineral rich. This new blue scrub is startlingly refreshing, with a dash of lemon juice and the tropical scent of mimosa blossom. Smooth it all over your body; you can even use it as a shampoo.
Sugar Babe – A sugar scrub with a coconut oil centre. There are lots of reviews about this being painful to use and that it melts in the shower. It is a very fragile bar, I slightly squished it to test how soft it was and put my thumb right through it! I made it into a paste before using it. I had just finished a scrub from Waitrose that came in a glass jar. So I crumbled the bar up and added a really tiny amount of water, probably a tablespoon full. I then just stirred it together with my finger and made sure the coconut oil that was in the middle was all mixed in. It ended up a lovely pale pink colour. It has a lovely sweet smell and if you mash it up into a paste it lasts 4+ washes. If you don’t like rough scrubs, this may be one to avoid. If you don’t mind, this is probably the best scrub you’ve ever used for so little money! :)
Lush says – Sugar Babe is a gentle alternative to the intensity of Sugar Scrub. It’s a mix of sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar, which makes it sound more like a cake than a cosmetic, and moisturising coconut oil.
Twilight Bath Ballistic - A purple, lavender bath bomb with a blue centre. My first bath bomb! It was lovely, I didn’t take any pictures, but it made the water all purple, then the blue fizzed out from the centre and left a purple and swirly blue bath with a few bits of glitter as well, but not too many, you don’t end up covered in sparkles. It was lovely, smelt really nice, and made my skin really soft. I wanted to go to sleep afterwards! :) I didn’t take a picture as I’m clumsy and phone+bath water+me= disaster!
Lush says -Twilight softens your entire body, and it even twinkles like starlight as the glitter is released. When it fizzes, the shift from pink to indigo looks like the sun setting in the night sky. It’s the most relaxing bath-time treat yet and will transform you from Edward Sullen to a human being again.
Dragons Egg Bath Ballistic – A white bath bomb with a gold centre. The lovely girl in Lush showed me it makes the water full of lovely gold glitter. When I put mine in the bath it broke in two and the white half bobbed around in the water and the gold bit fizzed around and made the water all orange/gold. The centre of the orange bit had a cube of fizzy gold glitter which filled the water with lots of gold sparkles. It smells great too, like lemon sherbet! It left my skin lovely and soft and I had the odd sprinkle of gold glitter all over when I got out the bath. I really liked this, but you have to distract yourself from the fact you are sat in pee coloured water, it looks like the dragon egg hatched and the baby dragon had an accident! :S It’s lovely apart from that!
Lush says – As you bathe in the whirlpool of vibrant, fiery colour and inhale the refreshing sherbet scent of lemon and bergamot, you’ll feel like you’re up and away on the back of your own dragon. Popping candy pops around you, glitter swirls in shimmering circles and your bath becomes the birthing ground of a baby dragon. Well, in a way. When you drop these eggs into the water, they crack open to reveal plumes of orange fizz that look like a baby dragon breathing fire as it hatches into the world.
A successful first Lush haul! I have been back once since then and I have some of the Christmas range to review. I am currently loving the smell of Snow Fairy!
Lush Perfumes
Long time no post, sorry! There is a visiting prof. at work so everyone is being socialble this last week! Attempted to play poker last night…I was awful, I will blame the cards, but I think you can safetly assume I was crap at playing! :p Still, it was the first time I’d played!
I awesome news, I won a giveaway! The lovely Caz at Never Gonna Be Methadone Pretty was giving away some Lush perfume samples. If you haven’t followed her blog, you should! :)
I used to work not far from where they make Lush in Poole. It always smelt so nice! I hardly ever go into the Lush shop where I am now as it’s away from the main centre and I never think to wander down to it. So lazy!
Anyway, these perfumes are really nice! When I opened my little parcel I was surprised at just how strong they smelt (not too strong that people will avoid sitting down wind of you!). I find a lot of high street perfumes are a little weak, or a little alcohol smelling. These are great though! They are smell very different, I’m poor at describing so here are some stolen base note descriptions!
Imogen Rose – An exquisite rose perfume with dry vetivert notes and a powdery amber accord.
Karma – The trippy signature Lush scent of pine, patchouli and orange.
Lust – Carnal and sexy jasmine with an indolic character, floral notes and a soft, woody base.
The Smell of Freedom – Opens with a fresh, herbal accord and reveals its spicy and woody nature as it warms on your skin.
Tuca Tuca – Feminine and flirty violet perfume to evoke memories of that first intoxicating crush.
Orange Blossom – Fresh orange blossom and neroli perfume that smells like a distilled Mediterranean moment.
Vanillary – The sweet and sensual vanilla perfume with floral and smoky notes.
I’ve tried a couple of these throughout the week, they definitely smell different in the bottle than they do after they have been on your skin. Some do smell a little… strange in the bottle, but it’s definitely worth wearing them and seeing what you think after a little while on the skin. So far my favourite is Imogen Rose, I love rosey smells anyway, so I’m perhaps a little biased! :P I’ve also tried Karma and Lust. Karma was my boyfriends favourite as he says it just smells like that nice smell you get when you walk past Lush.
