Shiro Cosmetics Intertubes Lip Swatches

I finally got around to putting up these Shiro Cosmetics swatches. I always think that you need a lip swatch to truly see what a lip product looks like :)

First thing I’ll say is they are all similar in quality and application. They have the same base ingredients of shea butter and jojoba oil which is lovely and moisturising.  When I apply them they are a little hard for a few seconds, but they quickly soften up on contact with your lips. Once warm they glide on nicely and they all give a quite opaque finish straight away. All the following swatches are straight from the tube and were no hassle to apply and importantly, there was no patchiness! In the past I’ve had some strong coloured products that can be patchy when you apply them, but these were perfect! :)

Now on to the swatches! Here is a quick reminder of the tubes and the arm swatches.

Now for the lip swatches! First there is Three Wolf Moon. A dark, bold red which is cinnamon flavoured with cinnamon oil. This one smells really strongly of cinnamon, so if you don’t like it you may not like applying this baby! Your lips do tingle when you apply it because of the cinnamon oil, but it doesn’t feel weird or anything. I leaves a lovely dark red colour and it does stain to leave a similar dark red tint if it wears off. When it wears off you are basically left with the same colour, but it’s not glossy. Definitely do not go around kissing people on the cheeks with this on, you will stain them! :p

Next is OVER 9000. A bold pink, a shade or two darker than bubblegum which is grapefruit flavoured. Weirdly, I realised I had no idea what grapefruit smelt or tasted like until I tried this! I have the strangest gaps in my “foods I’ve tried” list! This goes on just like a lip balm and leaves a lovely pink. Any lighter and I wouldn’t be able to wear this pink. I can’t pull off baby pink colours, so this is perfect for me. It does leave a light coloured stain too, so no kissing babies/strangers!

This one is my personal favourite, Yo Dawg. A bright but wearable magenta which is raspberry flavoured. This is very similar to OVER 9000, but a touch darker/more purple. This is definitely my favourite and I’ve had lots of complements on it. It’s pretty much the same colour as the slices in my hair. All I need now is some purple blush and eyeshadow and I can be a creepy magenta coloured animé super hero! That would be quite awesome actually! :P This colour is quite dark in the context of the rest of my face, but not too dark it looks vampy. I can see myself easier using up this tube with the amount I am wearing it and it is a really tasty raspberry flavour. Again it leaves a good stain and is so easy to touch up due to that. I can apply this in the morning and go into town and only have touch it up after eating/drinking. It’s the perfect no worry lip product. Although due to staining you do need to watch out when trying on clothes!

Now to get a bit further from my usual comfort zone. This is Robe & Wizard Hat. A mid-toned blue with gold sparks and it is blueberry flavoured. They gold sparkles are more apparent in real life, but I couldn’t get the lighting right, you can kinda see them in the picture. I really liked this, more than I thought I would! I had a thing about wanting a blue lip product since I’ve seen so many lovely lip products being swatched by Lillian on her blog! She has awesome lips and an amazing make up collection! Since I saw her swatching blue lip colours I’ve been obsessed with trying one! I was quite happy when I saw the Shiro one and had to have it, not only for the gorgeous colour, but the awesome name! :) It goes on really smoothly and cleanly and is not at all patchy. I applied this from the tube and was quite careful and I don’t think it came out to bad. I think you could get a cleaner look with a lip brush as you can see some imperfections in my application. This blue is surprisingly wearable, I probably wouldn’t wear it to uni, but I’d wear it on a night out definitely!

This is the last full sized Intertube I bought and it is Longcat. It is a colorless base with silver sparks and is peppermint flavoured with real peppermint oil. I had to have thing one for two reasons.

1. Longcat is awesome.

2. I have a unhealthy love of all things mint flavoured.

Again due to the peppermint oil is have a minty, tingle when applied, which due to my love of mint, I really like! The sparkles are really pretty and I think you could wear this alone or over another lip colour. I have been putting in on my lips when my bold colours when worn off to a stain and I cba to reapply them. If you put this one over the top you get a nice stain coloured sparkle :)

Lastly, this is Rickrolled and it was sent as a sample. It is a red-orange; can appear coral which is ginger flavoured with real ginger oil. Please excuse the dodgy application, I had to use my finger to warm up the goo in the pot and I applied it with my finger. Now…what I learnt from this is I don’t like ginger. I actually really like the colour, it’s bold and different, but not unwearable. I found it difficult to apply due to me pulling a face of disgust as I applied it! I tried to not do it, but it’s just such a weird flavour! I didn’t keep it on long as, in fact it was hard to do this picture without my disgust face! Caitlin, the creator of Shiro Cosmetics has mentioned that she will start to make any of the Intertubes without flavour if anyone asks. I think that is really lovely of her!

So there you go! They are really awesome, I’m quite blown away by how much I love these! They are completely affordable at $6.50 each or around £4 and £2 postage. You can ever buy a batch of 5 or all 10 at a discounted rate. Bargain! I cannot recommend these enough, I really love them and I can see me ordering more. There are 4 other colours I haven’t tried including 2 rather lovely purples, 1 dark and 1 a light lavender colour. Also, the lavender one it is called Leeroy Jenkins and although I quit WoW I still have a soft spot for the hours and hours of my life I put into it. I still remember how funny it was when I first say the Leeroy video. Almost as funny as MOAR DOTS!, but not quite, that’s an all time favourite for me :P Probably because I remember people going mad at people for falling in the whelps when I played all that time ago!

Has anyone else picked up any Shiro Intertubes? What do you think? I’d love to see swatches of the colours I haven’t got :)

Also, it’s the weekend! I’ve handed in what I’ve been working on all week and now I’m going to have a lovely relaxing evening! Catching up on blogs and relaxing, what a lovely evening! :) Hope you are all having a relaxing Friday evening! Enjoy your weekend! xxxx

Mac Cham-Pale Goodies

I ordered a couple of things from the Mac Cham-Pale collection and the arrived yesterday. It is so impressive how quickly Mac can deliver orders. I ordered Quiet, Please lipstick (lustre), I Get No Kick eye kohl and Soirée nail polish.

I was quite pleased with the eye kohl. I haven’t been using my usual black eye liner lately as it’s a bit harsh and makes me look more tired than I am. I wrecked my sleeping patterns over my holiday and I feel/look like crap going back to getting up early. I have been using Benefit Eye Bright instead of black eye liner. I like Eye Bright, but it is very pale and quite noticeable, like I am just wearing white eye liner. I wanted something to brighten my eyes that was a more skin coloured shade, just to tone down my red eyes. I really like I Get No Kick. It’s a pleasure to apply and it leaves behind a pearly skin tone colour. It makes my eyes look bright and less tired. Also the pencil is really long! It’s my first Mac pencil and I think it’s going to least years!

Swatch of Quiet, Please (top) and I Get No Kick (bottom)

I also bought Quiet, Please lipstick. It is a pale lipstick and very sheer, with a nice shimmer to it. This won’t be everyone cup of tea. I liked it because I wanted a sheer shimmery colour, but I know a lot of people will think it’s a bit pointless. I love it though! It is great to just put on everyday and Mac are one of the only lipsticks I get alone with. The swatch below is a bit crappy and out of focus, but I was running out of light. At least it shows the light reflecting shimmer!

Finally, the Soirée nail polish! I really wanted this when I saw it. I wanted a rosy gold colour for ages to match my engagement ring. I saw that Nicole by OPI are releasing a rose gold too soon. I want to try that too, it looks a tad more rosy than Soirée. I can’t wait to try it out, it looks lovely in the bottle. I haven’t tried Soirée yet though due to a boo boo. Look at my middle finger nail! I had to get into uni for 9am yesterday for 3 hours of training…groan! Afterwards I had to wait around and I decided to take a nap. I positioned two chairs to nap across and as I go comfy I cracked my hand off the chair and snapped my nails. The first time I leave the house without polish on for months and I managed to break a nail :( I’d just got them to a length I liked as well! Oh, well I guess I would have cut them down next week for exams anyway, I can’t write with long nails. In good news,  my nails don’t look as nasty and yellow as I thought they would be without polish. I use Models Own 3 in 1 polish as base coat, just because I hated it as a top coat and wanted to get rid of it, but in all honesty it’s not a bad base coat.

A friend gave me a movie to watch with weekend and a bottle of Russian vodka for Christmas, so I’m a happy bunny. So tonight I can watch the movie, get drunk and try to not file my nails all lopsided! The rest of the weekend I am finishing my lit review. :/ Did anyone else get anything from the new Mac collections? Has anyone else planned a fun weekend? :) xxxx

NOTD Models Own Golden Peach

Phew! I have had a really busy month. I’m glad to sit down and relax! I didn’t get up till late afternoon today I have been busy all week trying to get experiments sorted before my boss went away on holiday, a lot of rushing around and long hours. However, I did go to the BBQ last weekend which was nice. I bought myself a new dress in the end an attempt to dress sensibly, I found nothing in town and in the end came home and looked on the Topshop website because I wanted to by myself some nail polish to cheer myself up. I ended up finding a lovely dress on there, in the sale too! Bargain!

I received my purchases from Jen’s blog sale too (Thanks Jen!). They are lovely, I got (L->R) Models Own Golden Peach and Blue Moon and Topshop’s Cloud.

The golden peach was perfect to match my new dress. I put a layer of Rimmel Apricot Punch and then a layer of Models Own Golden Peach over the top. I could even still smell the fruity apricot smell, if your wondering. Then I put some cute blue butterfly Nailene stickers on my thumbs. Matches my dress fabric quite well in the end! :) I really liked this nail look.

Here is the new dress, it’s from Motel, but you can buy it from Topshop. I grabbed this in the sale for half price. I have three other Motel dresses as this style suits me, they are my favourite dresses.

NOTD Sugar sweet vs Dark and glam

The problem with buying lots of nail polish at once is how to test them all out, the answer is rainbow nails! I wasn’t really paying attention when I bought these in London, I just happen to get rainbow colours. I didn’t even realised I’d put them on in the right order too (almost). Only when chopping the photos did I wonder why the colours seemed to go together! I quite like this, it makes me want to eat sweeties. Do people always their polish coordinated?  All one colour? I don’t mind the one of every colour look! :)

Thumb – pinkie

Revlon Cherries in the Snow, Revlon Tropical temptation, Models Own Lemon Meringue, Models Own Feeling Blue, Eyeko Vintage Polish

I also bought some dark colours, so to go with my sugar sweet hand I have a dark and glitter hand. I’ve tried to show the glitter in them by taken the photos with the flash on.

Index – pinkie

Eyeko Vampira, Models Own Gun Grey, Eyeko Cosmic, GOSH Nero

My usual black is GOSH Nero, but comparing it to these is mad! It is opaque in one coat, but applies like glue and I normally make an awful mess with it. These dark colour were surprising easy to work with in comparison to GOSH and the opacity is perfect too. I love the Cosmic and Vampira sparkles, subtle but still sparkly! :)

I’m off to Stone Henge tomorrow for the summer solstice. Should be fun, as long is it doesn’t decide to rain all night! This is the first time I’ve been, so quite looking forward to it! Now just to decide what is best to wear in case of night weather changes! I better pack the waterproof mascara just in case!

Nodnol bubbles

I painted my nails lilac colour, but hastily put top coat on before it was dry, now I have super bubbly nails! I don’t think anyone is going to look at them that close to see and even if they do I’ll say it’s a feature!

Ooooh pressies!

As a present for surviving exams and starting my new job, my boyfriend ordered me some goodies from Sick for Cute! I love this site, its full of cute goodies to buy. This is my little present haul below :)

A dino magnet, a pretty pink rose headband, a pink cherry necklace and a pair of hair grips (apple and cherry). The mermaid magnet was free with my order. :)

ASOS sent out an email yesterday that there was free next day delivery until 6pm. I had had my eye on the pastel pink Models Own nail polish for awhile and was going to nip to Boots this weekend, but I thought free next day delivery and an excuse not to raid town on a horrible Saturday sounded good! I bought the Models Own polish in Pastel Pink, Batiste dry shampoo in brunette and a cute little bow ring. I used the dry shampoo this morning and I was very pleasantly surprised. I’ve never used any dry shampoo before and I just thought I’d give it a go as I normally have to wash my hair every morning. I sprayed it all over, brushed it out, instant non greasy hair, very happy, especially for in the summer!

On top of all this I had one of those dreaded red “Sorry you weren’t in” cards from the postman, so I had to do the horrible trip to the post sorting centre. I hate that journey, it’s hot, polluted and frankly, depression to look at! I also had no idea what the parcel was. I am expecting my full sized Meow order soon, but I thought it was too quick to be that. I was handed a mysterious brown, podgy envelope and when I opened it I remembered I’ll order some cuticle remover. I had seen a voucher code for free delivery on Nails Etc blog and ordered some and completely forgot I’d done it. Aren’t the Nfu.Oh bottles cute though?!

I have never used a cuticle remover before and I’m a bit of a scaredy cat about it. I won’t have a manicure at the beauticians, and I sit cringing when I have a pedicure and she gets out the cuticle pusher. I have to closed my eyes and pretend it’s not happening! I don’t know what it is about it, but it really grates on me :s I’m going to build myself up to it today though and paint my nails with my new pastel pink…if I ever work up enough courage!

Update: I’m annoyed! My Models Own polish has no brush! :/ I used the cuticle remover, it was easy and not at all scary! I put on a dvd, put on base coat, opened my pink…no brush! Bah! :(

Post exam Boots haul and NOTD

I went to Boots this last week as a break from the pain of revision! It was 3 for 2 on make up so I went a little purple mad for some reason! I also got the Diet coke offer London nail polish and some Revlon ColorStay in ivory. It seemed to blend in perfectly with my skin in the shop. Alas, I’ve not given it a go yet as I dread the consequences! I will though, maybe as a bank holiday disaster tomorrow, I have been sidetracked by the many Meow samples to try.

I really like the pastel nail polishes floating around at the moment. I saw the Revlon Lilac Pastelle and picked it up and then the Barry M Berry Ice Cream. I know they look very similar but I thought they would look nice together…that was my defence to my boyfriend who had to follow me round carrying all the varnishes while I played with everything else shiny/colourful in the shop!

This is Barry M in Berry Ice Cream. Doesn’t look too bad and it applied nicely, I think this is two coats. I really liked it so I didn’t mess with it straight away.

That only lasted a day though until I risked making a mess of them and did the tips. I liked it even more! I’ve kept it for 4 days, I believe it’s a record for me! However, I just chipped the thumb making dinner. :(
