Missguided Misscellaneous Nude and Mac Soiree

I went to see X-Men-First Class at the weekend. It was really good! I had very low expectations due to the third X-Men film being a bit crummy, but I really enjoyed it! They didn’t wreck any of the characters which is always good, but I would prefer if the films matched the comic more. The cinema is about a 30 minute walk from my house and it was only slightly raining so me and my OH wandered down there. We ate lots of sweet popcorn for lunch and when it was time to leave it was absolutely chucking it down with rain! We got pretty wet walking home, I happened to wear my hoodie that acts more like a towel then a coat, yuck! Also, what is with large dents in the road near pavements where rain water builds up into giant puddles and cars drive through and soak people on the pavement?! If you’re in a car, you are already happier and dryer than me, don’t get me more wet! The only part of me dry was my socks…until you decided to create that large wave that went in my shoes! *shakes fist* I laughed at the time, but I had to squelch my way home! I just wanted to cuddle up under a blanket when I got home. It’s been so cold this week I’ve been grabbing my warm fluffy socks a lot, much toastier! :)

Here are the pictures of my stubby nails from during my exams. They are so short and sad looking. I used Missguided Misscellaneous in Nude, which was free in Cosmo last year. It’s a nice nude polish that suits my yellow skin tone. I quite like nude colours on short nails and this is the one I like to reach for most if I want nude nails. It’s a great polish, two coats for opacity and it dried quickly and is really shiny even without a top coat.

I also added Mac Soiree as an accent nail. It’s one of the only golds I can pull off with my skin tone, I really like it. It only needs one coat really, but I tend to put on two just to make it last. Soiree dries really quickly so I added my top coat to that finger first and than did the rest and some of the gold sparkle came off on the top coat brush and transferred to the nude fingers. You can kinda (not very well) see on my middle finger in the second picture. It left a really nice subtle gold shimmer which I liked. I wish I had a sheer gold sparkle polish to do it properly! I know CND has lots of lovely sheer sparkly top coats, I have the Amethyst Sparkle one, but they are quite pricey. Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

Hope you are all dry and warm! :) xxxx

Nails Inc Pallmall – Bridal nails

I have been busy this week/weekend finally finishing my draft of my research project! Woo! I just need to have a read through and jazz it up! Quite happy for that to be almost done, it’s my last large piece of coursework for my degree. 4 more weeks, 1 presentation, 1 small piece of coursework and 3 exams and I’m done! :D

Also, as I mentioned in my previous post, my niece went into hospital and had her baby boy! He’s a month early, so they are being kept in for a couple of days. I hope to go up and visit them soon, can’t wait to see them. I’m now a great-aunt! I didn’t ever want to be a great-anything tbh, makes me feel old! Although I think my mum has it worse, she is now a great-granny! :P

After seeing so many Royal wedding posts, nail art etc I felt a little left out. I wasn’t that bothered about the whole thing, in fact I slept through it. But I was surprised to see that it seemed as if the couple actually liked each other. It was quite sweet really! To be somewhat topical and after stealing the idea for Jenni’s blog, I thought about doing a bridal type nail thing. I decided to wear the most bridal colour I owned and I found this bottle tucked at the back of my nail polish draw. I bought it as part of a mystery pick n mix offer awhile ago, but never tried it. It is a little bit boring so I can see why I left it. However, it is perfect for a neutral, veiled white, nail colour.

I forgot how lovely Nails Inc polishes are to use and wear. This was two coats, I assume it isn’t really the kind of polish you wear opaque and I didn’t fancy putting 5+ layers on to test it :P It applied really nicely and dried quickly and super shiny! It is a sheer, frosty, pearly-white colour which wasn’t at all streaky, which I was very pleased about. Most frosty polishes I own are a nightmare for streakiness. I think it’s quite a nice bridal colour, quite natural, but still polished. Really nice polish, I must try more Nails Inc, the quality is great :)

With all this wedding talk recently, I remembered I was planning a wedding. I am not good with decisions and planning so I did ignore it all for awhile. I’m going to a family wedding next weekend, so I may get back into the idea a little bit more. I just wish someone would do it all for me, and preferably pay for it! :P I probably wouldn’t wear my nails in a traditional neutral colour for my wedding day. I’ll probably go for pink glitter or something. I’ll have to think about it, start with the little decisions! :P

What would/did you wear on your nails for your wedding day/special occasions? xxxx

OPI Have a Tempura Tan-Trum

Thursday already! Another week almost gone and I’m not sure where it went! I must start writing posts in a batch when I have free time. I seem to go ages between posts when the week is hectic, sorry about that! I’ve not had chance to even read many blogs this week, my unread list is creeping up! I have tomorrow morning at home so I’l try and catch up then :)

Anyhoo, I have a pretty polish for you today/tonight. I think this was from the OPI Japanese collection, but I nabbed it from a blog sale. It is a light, peachy beige creme. It definitely needs 3 coats, but it does builds up nicely. It’s quite a watery polish which is a little awkward to work with, but once you get the hang of it its fine. It dries quite quickly which is good. Again, I’m still on a topcoat strike so I’m happy that this is nice and shiny even without a topcoat. The only problem with this polish is that it probably could have done with another coat, but I can’t tell if it looks streaky due to needing another coat OR if this polish seems to bring out the ridges in my nails more than I’ve ever noticed before! Oh well, it’s not so noticeable in person, I hope! :P

The colour is quite nice, it kind of reminds me of the new Illamasqua polish ‘Purity‘, but this is more pale and less peachy. I finally used my ASOS Groupon voucher and bought a couple of the new Illamasqua polishes, Bacterium and Gamma. I can’t wait to try Gamma, from the swatches I’ve seen it’s going to be super bright! I probably should have bought a new topcoat with my voucher, but that would be boring. It’s like using a giftcard to buy groceries! I might as well buy something fun I wouldn’t normally get! :)

I’ve had a stressful week, with 3 presentations to do and my postgraduate application to finish I feel like I’ve got more to do than time to do it in. My personal statement writing is not going well, I hate writing how great I am, I just feel really silly! By the end of next week and it’ll all be over ofc, so I can hang on till then! :P Tomorrow I get to spend the day visiting all the local sexual health clinics, fun times! One of my modules is all about current social issues, and teenage sex is quite prominent in the topic. I’m not sure what me and my fellow group members are going to do in these clinics, but we need to go and find out what they all have on offer for young people. I dread to think what kind of day it will turn out to be! :s

Also I had some super news earlier this week! I entered the recent Aussie Haircare competition and was 1 of the 10 winners! I get to be an honorary Aussie Angel for the Spring which is amazing! I get to be involved in some fun activities that haven’t yet been disclosed too. After a manic week, this really cheered me up!

I hope you all have had a lovely week that was nice and relaxing! The sunshine has been out and it’s been nice and warm here. I’ve stopped dressing like an Eskimo, for now anyway! :) I’ll catch up soon! xxxx

Estée Lauder Crystal Baby

I picked up this lovely lipstick when browsing in Boots. The Estée  Lauder counter is just in the doorway ready to taunt me with it’s prettiness. I’ve never actually bought anything from Estée Lauder before, but thought I’d have a look at the Pure Colour Crystal lipsticks I’d heard were nice. I played with the display while looking my usual scruffy self and was watched intently by the staff. I must look like a shoplifter, I seem to elicit this kinda of response often! :s I picked up a rather well-used looking tester of Crystal Baby and it felt really soft and nice on the back of my hand. I really liked the colour too.

I must have, at some point, made a decision that I don’t have many everyday colours that I don’t need a mirror to apply because I ended up buying two that week! After buying Crystal Baby, much to the delight of my shop assistant watchers, I received my Mac Wonder Women order through the post. I realised that Crystal Baby is quite similar to Marquise d’. The main difference is that Marquise’d has a gold shimmer running through it, but they are both a natural and quite flattering colour on me.

Mac Marquise d’ – Estee Lauder Crystal Baby

Estée Lauder have wonderful packaging. I know you shouldn’t buy anything for it’s packaging, but if I was going to it would be something like this! The tube feels quite weighty and sturdy and just looks and feels of good quality.

This is Crystal Baby on my lips. My natural lip colour is quite purple (I’m quite deathly looking without any make-up on. With my dark circles, pale skin and purple lips…I was a good goth kid in my teenage years at least!), but this lipstick makes me look quite alive. It’s a peachy/pink colour and it feels really nice to wear. It’s quite glossy and can be easily applied without a mirror. This is definitely my favourite lipstick in terms of the formula, it just feels so nice on. I really like the colour for an everyday look just to make me look a bit more alive! I will browse for more of these lipsticks, but only as a treat, they are a little pricey (£18) for my student pockets, but they are great quality!

I’m so pleased I’ve had a day off and done no work at all today, it’s been really nice! The sun was shining and it’s started to get warmer, it was lovely. The only bad thing is I realised my garden is a mess and I need to sort it out before everything starts growing like crazy, nooo! Hope you are all having a lovely weekend! x x x x

Mac Blankety and Mac Pink Lemonade

This is my first scheduled post, so hopefully it works! I had a few pictures I’d taken awhile ago sat waiting to be put up so thought this would be a good time. Because this is scheduled, I wonder what I’m doing now. I’m most likely slumped over a book, probably swearing and wishing this week away! Poor me! Oh well, I’ll be fine when I go and buy myself some treats for making it through exam time. I’ve already bought myself a Deborah Lippmann nail polish for finishing my literature review :p

Anyway on to my lovely Mac goodies! I’ve become a bit of a Mac fan lately, it’s a shame I cannot afford such a hobby! Wonderful blog sales however come to my rescue. I bought two Mac products from a blog sale over at Vivianna Does Makeup . I picked up Mac Blankety lipstick and Mac Pink Lemonade Lipglass.

Mac Blankety – Mac Pink Lemonade

First is Blankety. It is quite similar to The Faerie Glen (which I love), but with an amplified finish. It goes on really nicely and has a neutral/polished look. It lasts quite well and it isn’t at all drying.

Next is Pink Lemonade. This is my first lipglass from Mac. I have avoided them as I don’t really like sticky lip glosses, but I really don’t mind this one. It is sticky, but it doesn’t feel bad, it just sticks to the lips so it won’t come off. I may be swearing about the stickiness if I get my hair blown in my face when outside though! :P I think it looks quite pretty on, again it is a neutral/sheer shade, but it just adds a little extra peachy colour and lots of shininess!

What about you, do you love blog sales? I know I do! :)

Mac Lipstick The Faerie Glen from the Tarten Tales collection

I have had this post as a draft for months. I finally remembered to post it and realised I’d have to change loads of the text. I was yabbering on about it starting to get cold. Since then we’ve all been snowed in and I’ve been living with the heating on all the time for weeks! I think the last week has been a bit warmer so maybe my new start to this post should be, it’s starting to get warmer…I hope. :P

Anyway, I have a thing for lipsticks at the moment. I don’t own that many due to a family trait of thin lips… thanks for that genes! But I’m starting to see what I can wear on my lips without looking foolish.

I started by getting a few tinted balms when it started to get colder and now I’m grabbing all the lipsticks I like the look of! I think I was mostly put off before after trying some lipsticks my sisters gave me and they were really drying, I wrote off lipsticks as ‘not for me’. I decided to try Mac and this was the lipstick I bought. I went for quite a safe colour first in case I looked ridiculous.

When the Tarten Tales collection was released I picked up The Faerie Glen. I’d seen it swatched a few times on different blogs and it seemed like a nice everyday colour. The colour looks quite brown/beige in the tube and when I swatched it on my arm I was convinced it was going to be horrible on! It looked (as you can see above) quite brown/orange and I couldn’t imagine it looking good on my lips. :/

However…lucky for me, it is much nicer when I put it on and I wear this constantly now. It’s a Lustre finish so is quite sheer, but buildable. It’s weird I didn’t realise how pink my lips were! You can definitely see I’m wearing lipstick, but it’s quite natural/neutral and I quite like it. :) It is really moisturising and feels quite nice on my lips and lasts a few hours before needing to reapply. It’s definitely one of my favourite make up items at the moment!

I just went on the Mac website to check if the new collections (Cham Pale/Stylishly Yours) had been released and they have! So my bank account just took a beating and I ordered a couple of things. I didn’t go to the sales so I’m allowed :P

Back to work this week :( Just as I was starting to relax! I have my lit review to finish up today and then much revision must be accomplished. I can’t wait for these two weeks to be over, exam time is not fun! My condolences to all those people back to work/uni this week, I share your pain. My posting may be sporadic the next few weeks, but I have some drafts I can fix up, hopefully I’ll remember. I hope you are have a lovely week! xxxx
